It's a lovely, cloudy day today.
Not the most ideal conditions for flying, but I'm still enjoying the break from all the sunlight.

and maybe I had miles to drive, and promises to keepCollapse )

Day 11 - put your iPod on shuffle and write ten songs that pop up
I'm doing seventeen, because it's my favorite number.
It didn't specify which songs I was supposed to write down, so I'm picking and choosing at will. I like to maintain a faint illusion of musical dignity.
(little Roman numerals stolen from Kassie, 'cause she's classy like that)
(vi - viii are in shuffle order)
(so are xii-xv)

i. "The Renegades of Funk" - Rage Against the Machine
ii. "Fade to Black" - Dire Straits
iii. "Tombstone Shadow" - Creedence Clearwater Revival
iv. "Me and the Devil Blues" - Robert Johnson
v. "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" - The Darkness (on second thought, musical dignity is overrated)
vi. "A Thousand Kisses Deep" - Leonard Cohen
vii. "Whistlin' Past the Graveyard" - Tom Waits
viii. "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" - Creedence Clearwater Revival
ix. "Digital Get Down" - NSync. DON'T JUDGE ME. I CAN FEEL YOUR JUDGMENT.
x. "Sonne (Clawfinger K.O. remix)" - Rammstein
xi. "Come On, Get Higher" - Matt Nathanson
xii. "Wolfgang's Fifth Symphony" - Wolfgang Gartner
xiii. "Howl" - Florence + the Machine
xiv. "Born to be Wild" - Steppenwolf
xv. "Let Me Be Your Armor" - Assemblage 23
xvi. "The Masochism Tango" - Tom Lehrer
xvii. "Eye Like Big Tiger Butts" - Survivor + Sir Mix-a-Lot

Last night, I went out to Wumpskate in LA with my dear friend Rosie, who was having an icky day and wanted to go have some fun.
It was Spring Fling night, so I dressed appropriately - brilliant yellow, glittery "one fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish" t-shirt, red/black/white plaid miniskirt, fishnets, and obnoxiously mismatched knee and ankle socks.

I hadn't gone rollerskating since I was nine years old, and it turns out that fourteen years is more than enough time to make one's mad skillz disappear into thin air. I fell twice - once on my keester, and once on my knees.
The latter left me with a mildly ouchy floorburn.
It's fishnet-patterned.

a minor injury this awesome deserves documentationCollapse )

12-hours-later update, in which it looks even coolerCollapse )

I should probably be a little worried by how proud I am of this.

The debate amongst my friends as to which Hogwarts house I belong to has officially been settled, once and for all.
One week and 93 votes later, I've been sorted, and I'm so excited about where I ended up.
The winner, by a margin of 11 votes (48-37, with the other houses trailing at 7 and 1), is...

Kassie's writing meme, five am special edition: three for the price of one
the cut text for each is the quote that would have been the title of the entryCollapse )

Day 03 (April 5) - Your views on drugs and alcohol
she's got a mortgage on my body, she's got a lien on my soulCollapse )

Day 04 (April 6) - Your views on religion
I know my baby, if I see her in the darkCollapse )

Day 05 (April 7) - A time you thought about ending your own life
I sing until the day awakes, a bright light in the HeavensCollapse )

[music |"The Masochism Tango" - Tom Lehrer]

I had a dream last night that Saturn exploded because a quasi-sentient wiffle ball that I was playing with was knocked wildly off course, disappearing inside the gas giant to wreak very confusing havoc.
... and someone was trying to use it to test the Youtube and Twitter response times to cataclysmic events.

Other notable occurrences/themes from the same long dream sequences included: overstuffed chairs, dentists, a royal family of some sort, a beach, sex, a chandelier, lots of dust and creepy atmospheric stuff that wasn't actually creepy, Cincinnati, and spinach.

My subconscious needs to be quarantined for its - and my - own good.

[music |Tom Waits]

I don't know exactly why I love 3 am so much, but love it, I do.

Los Angeles is beautiful at night - so peaceful when everyone's asleep, the soft glow of city-lights reflected in low-lying clouds so gentle on my eyes.
I adore the silence. All I can hear when I turn my music off is the distant hum of the freeway, with the occasional owl-hoot and bursts of high-pitched coyotespeak in the distance.

It's so different from the quiet I grew up listening to in Alaska.
I miss it sometimes; the thick, heavy hush of the rainforest all around me, the gentle swish of waves against the shore, and the rhythm of rain drumming on the roof.

Right now, though, I'm content to marvel at the valley full of light stretching out before me - orange and blue-white and red and green - and swig nonalcoholic Bloody Mary mix straight from the bottle.

I'm craving terrible bodice-ripping romance novels right now, and it feels like a good night for smut and lounging.
I have a small pile of books of dubious quality, an entire internet full of filth, another quart of Dr. Swami & Bone Daddy's spicy, tomato-y goodness, and a few hours 'til the sun rises.
Let the games begin.

[music |Kansas]

Once upon a time, musicians had to sound good without Autotune and a metric ton of studio processing in order to be successful - it was the rule, rather than the exception.
This is the best version of "Wayward Son" in terms of the live vocals.

Every time I listen to the
"now your life's no longer empty
surely Heaven waits for you"
section, his voice gives me chills.

(and check out ginger!Hagrid. That is one epic mane)

[music |Counting Crows]

I have "Accidentally in Love" by Counting Crows so firmly lodged in my brain that I think it might have set up a permanent home.

I also misjudged the amount of ranch dressing I would need for this carrot-nomming adventure - there are insufficent amounts of creamy, delicious goodness in my life, and it's a little sad.

I'm doing pretty well today, riding off the high of a good doctor visit yesterday and the fact that I drove 100 miles of Los Angeles freeway without killing anyone (for some perspective, until a few months ago, the only roads I'd ever driven on were two-lane highways with a maximum speed limit of 45 mph). My treatment is progressing slowly but surely, and the neurological symptoms have disappeared almost completely.

My plan for the day: watch old Vincent Price movies and re-read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I'm in the middle of filling out a Sorting questionnaire for the hogwartsishome community, and whenever I spend more than five minutes thinking about Harry Potter, I'm seized by the desire to read the books.

[music |Tom Waits]

Yesterday, I spent time with Jon and Anna, two friends of mine from college whom I hadn't seen in nearly a year.

After a healthy dose of junk food and a trip to a comic-book store, we headed to Jon's house for some quality chill time.

Jon's house has a beautiful meditation room, a place of soft light and warm wood with a tatami-mat floor and a pile of futons in one corner. We laid on the thin mattresses, sharing stories and memories and ridiculous hopes, eventually nodding off in the comfortable, shared silence when the conversation dwindled.

Relaxing there, listening to the soft sound of my friends' breath and the chirping of the birds outide, I felt all the tension in my body melt away, and for a rare hour, I drifted; free of pain, free of thought, free of anything but peace and calm.

That alone was enough to make it a wonderful day
and wonderful, it was.
